Plumbing and electrical are handled in-house, rough-in through trim. That matters more than it sounds: on most kitchen jobs the schedule slips waiting on a sub, and we are not waiting on ourselves.
What a Kitchen Remodel Includes
Most kitchens we do involve some combination of cabinets, countertops, backsplash, flooring, lighting and appliance layout. Some are a full tear-out to the studs. Some are new doors and drawer fronts on boxes that were fine to begin with.
We will tell you which one you are looking at before you commit, and we would rather talk you out of a full renovation you do not need than sell you one.
Cabinets, Countertops and Storage
Cabinets and counters are most of what you see and nearly all of what you touch, so they are where a kitchen budget goes furthest. Replacing doors and drawer fronts on sound boxes costs a fraction of a full tear-out; replacing the boxes lets us change the layout underneath.
On counters we install quartz, granite and solid surface. Quartz is what most of our clients choose — it needs no sealing and takes a hot pan better than the alternatives.
Storage is the part people wish they had spent more on:
- 42-inch uppers that use the wall all the way to the ceiling
- Soft-close hinges and full-extension drawer slides
- Deep pan drawers instead of a low cabinet you have to kneel at
- Pull-out pantry and corner units that reach the back
- An island with storage on the working side and seating on the other
- Under-cabinet lighting so the counter is lit where you cut
We will tell you honestly when a reface is the better spend and when it is money after bad.
Opening Up a Closed Kitchen
Older houses here often have the kitchen walled off from the dining and living rooms, which makes both rooms darker and smaller than they need to be.
Whether that wall can come out depends on whether it is carrying load. A partition is a day's work. A load-bearing wall needs a beam sized for the span and posts carrying down to something solid, and it costs several times more — so we find out which one you have before anyone quotes you a number.
What a Kitchen Remodel Does for Your Home's Value
A kitchen is usually the first room a buyer judges and the most expensive one to put right, so an updated kitchen changes both what a house sells for and how long it sits. It is also the room you use every day for however many years you stay, which is the return that does not show up in an appraisal.
Where the money tends to go furthest:
- Layout that works — traffic flow and reach matter more to a buyer walking through than the brand of the appliances
- Counters and cabinets in current, neutral finishes
- Lighting, which is cheap next to cabinetry and transforms how the room photographs
- Flooring carried through into adjoining rooms, so the space reads as one
We will not tell you a remodel pays for itself; that depends on your house, your street and what you spend. What we will do is tell you before you commit which parts of your plan hold their value and which are for you alone — both are legitimate reasons to spend, but you should know which is which.
